Stress and Anxiety Over War

How to cope with stress and anxiety from war news?

Anxiety Question:

How do you cope with stress and anxiety from war news?
It’s important to be informed, but it can get to the point that you're afraid of leaving your house

Anxiety Answer:

Well, I certainly don't live in a war zone, but there is enough coverage of the war to make anyone squirm.

How do I cope with the stress and anxiety?

I basically read the newspaper to avoid the talking heads on TV yelling at each other to advance their own political agenda. And, when reading the newspaper, I try to read only the news, and not the editorials and columnists.

This way, the news comes in a bit more focused and I can zoom in on reality rather than dwell on hysteria and fall into stresss and anxiety.

Dealing with Anxiety Advice

Don't Worry So Much!

"A recent study by the University of Michigan found that 60% of our fears are unwarranted, 20% have already become past events and are not changeable and 10% are petty and don't make any difference at all. Only about four of the remaining 10% of our fears are real and justifiable and we can't do anything about half of them! So this leaves about 2% of our fears that are really worth thinking about at all. Perhaps we could give ourselves permission to worry only about those things that are really worth it, and let go of the rest!"

From the book titled "How to Stop Your Anxiety Now" by Dr. David Larson
