Muscle Clenching from Stress and Anxiety
Is muscle clenching part of anxiety?
Anxiety Question:
Is muscle clenching part of anxiety? I find myself clenching my muscles at times throughout the day, even if I am not having anxious thoughts.
For instance I will squeeze all the muscles in my whole lower leg and foot and hold them for moments and then continue to do it. Sometimes I don’t realize I am doing it and it will be visible to other people
I also stop breathing at times (for only a few moments) and realize this and take a breath, or I clench my fists around things when I’m holding them.
Anxiety Answer:
It sounds like you could be suffering from stress and anxiety.
Clenching your muscles, grinding your teeth, etc. are symptoms of stress and anxiety.
Try doing deep breathing exercises. It might sound silly but it will help relieve the tension in your body.
Also, therapeutic massage can be a big help in getting all of the tension out of your body.
If it continues to bother you, seek a doctor’s advise. There are anti anxiety medications that can help if it is severe.
