Social Anxiety Medication
When Jim's social anxiety symptoms caused him to lose his job,
he knew he had to talk to his doctor about
social anxiety medication.
"My family was depending on me for support and I let them down. When my boss would tell me that I was scheduled to give a presentation, I just wouldn't show up for work because I was sure all those people would be pointing at me, judging me and criticizing me. I just couldn't bear it. I know it sounds irrational, but at the time it was very real to me and it was ruining my life and my career."
Jim's doctor explained to him that there are social anxiety medications available that could help him cope with his symptoms.
According to studies conducted at the Mayo Clinic, the most effective social anxiety medications are Paroxetine (Paxil) Sertraline (Zoloft) and Veniafaxine (Effexor).
"My doctor prescribed psychotherapy and social anxiety medication," said Jim. "I am feeling so much better. Last night I actually went to my daughter's PTO meeting and introduced myself to the crowd."
Some people are under the misconception that taking medication for social anxiety is a sign of weakness. In his inspiring book titled "Panic Away," Joe Barry dispels that theory. "If you are on anti anxiety drugs then at least you have addressed your problem. There are millions of people who could not make it through the day without anxiety medication."
Barry points out in his book that that social anxiety medication may not be the answer for everyone and offers some very enlightening information about behavior therapy as well as nutritional and herbal remedies.
If you suffer from social anxiety ask your doctor if you could benefit from social anxiety medications. Together, you and your doctor can work out a plan that allows you to embrace life instead of avoiding it.
