Overcoming Anxiety Attacks without Medication
How do you overcome anxiety attacks?
Anxiety Question:
How do you overcome anxiety attacks without medication?
Anxiety Answer:
I used to have anxiety attacks semi-frequently. I really focus in on my breathing because sometimes I can stop an oncoming anxiety attack if I take deeper, longer breaths and shut my eyes.
I find that meditation helps too. Also, I concentrate on what is going through my mind and try to direct my thoughts towards more positive things.
Sometimes, if I can, I go for a walk or even open a window and pace for a bit to try to "get out" some of the anxiety and nervous energy I feel. If I'm in a crowded place during an anxiety attack, I usually go into the bathroom to just try to calm myself.
I have been to counseling. It is a good idea but tell them right from the start that you are not interested in medication. I still have anxiety attacks from time to time but not nearly as much as I used to.
