Non-Medication Anxiety Treatment and Relief
Any methods to aid in coping with Anxiety and Panic Attacks?
Anxiety Question:
Does anybody know of some methods to aid in coping with Anxiety and Panic Attacks?
Medications are abundant and I am aware of them all, but am curious about non-medication anxiety treatment and relief.
Anxiety Answer:
A couple of anxiety treatments that provide relief for me are: breathing techniques and, believe it or not, worry beads.
Get yourself a set of Tibetan mala beads, that's what I use. It's like a Tibetan Buddhist "rosary", you know, and they make great worry beads. You don't have to actually pray or anything while using them of course. I'm not a Buddhist, but you just work them in your hands from finger to finger and along the palm of your hand, it really helps calm you down and center you.
The breathing technique I use is called 2 for 1. You basically take a 2 count inhalation, slowly, through the nose, then, slowly, very slowly, release it through the lips for a 4 count. Then you move up to 3 and 6. Then 4 and 8. Usually I go up to 5 and 10. Then go back to the 2 and 4 again.
When you're inhaling slowly through the nose keep your mouth closed and feel the air in your diaphragm and stomach. Then just let it really, really slowly trickle out through a slight part in your lips, for the appropriate number of seconds.
These two anxiety treatment methods really work.
