Lexapro for Anxiety Disorder

Anti-depressants make me gain weight but my doctor keeps prescribing them for my anxiety disorder...

Anxiety Question:

Anti-depressants make me gain weight but my doctor keeps prescribing them for my anxiety disorder.

When I spoke to her about my concerns about the weight and the fact that I don't really feel depressed, just anxious and agitated from time to time, my doctor told me that it would be OK if I take the Lexapro whenever I am having a hard time with the anxiety and if I want to take it for a week or two and then stop, that would be OK.

Lexapro does work almost immediately on my anxiety and sometimes I take it for a few days and I feel better and then I stop and I'm OK for a few weeks.

Has anyone else tried using Lexapro in this way by the advice of their doctor?

Anxiety Answer:

Lexapro is very effective for anxiety disorder.

I haven't heard of it used that way, but if it works quickly on your anxiety - I don't see the harm.

I used it for a while for my PMS symptoms and I only used it for about a week at a time - my doctor was fine with this.
