Herbs for Anxiety:
Managing Anxiety the Natural Way

When Kate was diagnosed with anxiety disorder she talked to her doctor about using herbs for anxiety treatment.

Kate was reluctant to start taking prescription medications for anxiety because she was concerned possible about side effects.

Her doctor explained to her that herbs for anxiety were becoming increasingly popular as a way to lessen the strength and frequency of anxiety disorder symptoms. He told her that natural treatments for anxiety tend to have fewer side effects than conventional medicine.

In his innovative book titled "Panic Away" Joe Barry explains the benefits of natural remedies for anxiety. Barry gives specific examples of "Bach Herbal Remedies" that have been useful in the natural treatment of anxiety.

The late Dr. Edward Bach gave up his medical practice in 1930 to devote his time fully to finding herbal remedies for anxiety and the perfecting of his method of flower healing. He sought natural treatments for anxiety in the plant world which would restore vitality to the sick and ailing, so that the sufferer would be able to overcome their worry, their fear, their depression, and in that manner, assist in his own healing.

The remedies used in this method of natural treatment for anxiety are all prepared from the flowers of wild plants, bushes or trees.

Bach used herbs for anxiety - not directly for the physical complaint but rather according to the sufferer's anxiety and his bouts of fear, worry, anger or depression.

According to Bach: "An inharmonious state of mind will not only hinder the recovery of health and retard convalescence, but it is the primary cause of sickness and disease."

Barry notes that a mixture of five Bach flowers, aptly named, Rescue Remedy has been useful as a natural treatment of general day to day fear and anxiety.

These herbs for anxiety are commonly used for anxious moments (before tests & exams, visits to the dentist, or an important interview.) Bach's natural remedies for anxiety are benign in their action and do not generally cause unpleasant side effects. They are usually taken as drops in a glass of water.

If you decide to use natural treatments for anxiety, make sure that your physician is aware of your use of herbal remedies.

While most herbs for anxiety are safe if used in moderation, they can interfere with the effectiveness of other medications you may be taking for anxiety or other health conditions.
