Handling Social Anxiety Disorder

Any advice on handling social anxiety disorder
on job interviews?

Anxiety Question:

Any good advice on handling social anxiety disorder on job interviews?

This goes beyond the normal "nerves" when interviewing. I actually have not gone in to a few appointments because of panic attacks. Thus, I am missing out on good opportunities.

This also spills over into many social situations. But the interviewing is the most important to me right now. I am well qualified and competent.

Anxiety Answer:

Your social anxiety disorder places you in a difficult position, since during most interviews we ALL feel like we are being GRILLED by the world.

Your situation is even more interesting due to the fact that you are feeling that way all the time. Here is some advice to handling social anxiety disorder during interviews:

  1. The anxiety you are feeling is common to us all and it is inherent that we ALL are nervous during interviews.
  2. You will have overcome and defeated your stress and anxiety when you believe in yourself enough to foster the courage to even go to the appointment.
  3. The key to interviewing is that you take control of the interview.
I went to a workshop on interviewing once and this really works. You are competent and you are qualified and that’s your only job inside that interview. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND MAKE THEM WANT TO HIRE YOU. No worries ... no stress ... there’s nothing to lose, unless you don't go.
