Generalized Anxiety Disorder -
How to Cope?

I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder...

Anxiety Question:

I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

Anyone have this that can give me some ideas on how to live with this in every day life? I am currently taking Lexapro and Xanax for it. This helps but doesn't take it all away.

How do you live with generalized anxiety disorder everyday of your life?

Anxiety Answer:

I have generalized anxiety disorder, as well as severe panic disorder.

There are days when it is really difficult to deal with; like you said the anti anxiety medications help, but they don't take it all away.

The best thing I have found to do is to keep myself busy, whether it is playing games on the internet, reading books, going outside and doing something around the house etc.

The less you think about your generalized anxiety disorder, the less you have to deal with it.

Dealing with Anxiety Advice

Train Your Brain

"Just talking to someone and beginning to understand your condition can be very beneficial. You will realize that your biggest fears can be overcome and there will be a day when you don't even think about your anxieties. You will be able to "let it go." What I realized is that our brains are trained to give us these anxieties but our brain can also train itself to get rid of anxieties and fears. The brain is very powerful and if you are really committed, you can overcome those fears."
