Generalized Anxiety Disorder
and Conception
Will being treated for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
affect the chances of conception?
Anxiety Question:
Has anyone on here been diagnosed with generalized anxiety?
If so, were you still able to get pregnant?
Do you think the treatment for anxiety lengthened the process of trying to get pregnant or shortened it?
Also, can you mix fertility & anxiety drugs?
Anxiety Answer:
That depends what medication they give you for generalized anxiety disorder.
Typically psychiatrists will prescribe Zoloft or some other kind of SSRI.
Usually they interfere with your sex drive, i.e. make it harder to become aroused and/or lower your desire for sex. However, they do not affect fertility. They also do not interact with hormone medications.
However, you should let your gynecologist know about all anti anxiety medications you are on and as soon as pregnancy occurs. Typically you will be removed from the SSRI as it has not been tested on pregnant women as to how it effects the fetus.
