Clonazepam for Anxiety
Because he had never suffered from seizures,
Mike could not understand why his doctor suggested
Clonazepam (Anxiety medication) for his panic attacks.
“Everything I read about the Clonazepam anxiety medication said that Clonazapam is used to treat seizure disorders and anxiety panic attacks. I had never had a seizure in my life so I couldn’t understand why this would be a good choice for me. I asked my doctor why he picked this particular medication.”
Mike’s doctor explained to him that Clonazepam belongs to a class of medications called benzodiazepines which act on the brain and nerves (central nervous system) to produce a calming effect. This calming effect can be very helpful in controlling panic attacks.
Clonazepam works by enhancing the effects of a certain natural chemical in the body (GABA).
While some people have reservations about using medication to treat anxiety, there are millions of Americans who could not function in their daily lives without the assistance of medication.
In his book titled “Panic Away” Joe Barry explains that the decision to use medication does not mean that a person is weak. He said it is instead a sign of strength because it means a person has “owned up” to his anxiety symptoms and has decided not to let them rule his life.
Do not suddenly stop using Clonazepam for anxiety without your doctor’s approval. Some conditions may become worse if Clonazepam is stopped abruptly. If you decide to stop taking Clonazepam your doctor will need to gradually decrease your dosage.
Talk your doctor or mental health care professional about Clonzepam anxiety medication and other treatments that may cause anxiety to loosen its menacing grip on your life.
