Anxiety Treatment - Xanax Alternative

I have anxiety disorder and I would like to get off the Xanax

Anxiety Question:

I need help regarding the treatment of anxiety. I have a problem with anxiety disorder and I've handled it pretty well with taking 0.5mg of Xanax twice daily.

However, I would like to get of the Xanax and perhaps try something better, such as Lexapro or Buspar.

Being a male, I'm very concerned about the sexual side effect.

Should I stay on Xanax or give something else a try?
It's embarrassing talking to someone about this because it seems to me that if you've never experienced Generalized Anxiety Disorder, you cannot know how horrible it feels.

Anxiety Answer:

Physical and mental activity really helps for anxiety treatment.

If you are not doing some type of sport or working on a hobby, you are loosing out on the benefits that they offer for your mind.

Always remember that your mind is yours! You control it, and never let it control you.

I hope that makes sense to you because that is a huge part of treating anxiety.

You have to control your thoughts.
Pick and choose them. Don't get stuck in a loop.

Dealing with Anxiety Advice

I'm weaning myself off medication!

I have been listening to "Dissolving Panic and Anxiety" CD for about 6 months or so and it helps so much! I listen to it every night and I swear I couldn't sleep without it. I have really noticed a change in my ways of thinking and don't automatically assume the worst anymore which I used to do so often.

I have been able to wean off my medication and now only take it on an 'as needed' basis. I have started taking vitamin supplements and still see my therapist weekly. She also thinks I have improved a lot since I started seeing her last summer.

I just wanted to say thank you!
