Anxiety Symptoms and Strep Throat

Can strep throat cause you to have anxiety symptoms?

Anxiety Question:

Can strep throat cause you to have anxiety symptoms?

I have been taken celexa for anxiety for the past six weeks, come to find out I have strep throat (caught it from my daughter), would strep cause you to have anxiety symptoms until you started treating it with antibiotics?

Anxiety Answer:

It's impossible to say a definitive 'no' to anything in medicine. But I have never heard of this happening before and thinking about anatomy and physiology and pathology and all the other courses I have taken to prepare for my career, it doesn't make sense that it would cause anxiety symptoms.

But I did try to find some sort of connection thinking about the pathophysiologic processes of strep throat. The fact is, it didn't.

Sounds like you started taking Celexa before you had strep throat.

If you are taking the antibiotics for the strep throat now and you are doing well with your anxiety, it could be that the Celexa has kicked in and started working well for you.

Listen To Your Inner Voices

"Listen to your inner voices. Which ones are the soft, caring messages from the heart? Can you distinguish them from the more compulsive, obsessive or ego-generated messages of your mind? Note the differences that come to your awareness. Pay attention to the images that come to you. Be a distant observer of yourself and let yourself know in a more conscious way what you already know in your heart."
