Anxiety Disorder Triggered by Overnight Stay
I have had an anxiety disorder since childhood that comes and goes
Anxiety Question:
I have had an anxiety disorder since childhood that comes and goes. It has always been triggered by staying at people’s houses unless it’s my mom or grandmother. I can’t sleep and I end up gagging and throwing up. I was on Zoloft until I was no longer on my parents’ insurance. Now, two years later I am finally able to have insurance but can’t see a doctor for another week.
I have to go with my fiancé to his aunt’s house. We are staying there TONIGHT. I’m already feeling the symptoms. Is there anything I can do for my anxiety disorder?
Anxiety Answer:
This is really something you need to go through with a therapist.
Your anxiety disorder is either an emotional response that you acquired in early childhood (and that can be dealt with so that it never bothers you again) or it is mild autism, which more people suffer from than is realized.
Please understand that anxiety medication is NOT the answer, just a temporary alleviation of your anxiety disorder. It will do you no harm to have a look at this site: http://www.emofree.com.
The Emotional Freedom Technique has worked very well for many people. It is not necessary to 'believe in' the way that Gary Craig describes it as working (he often says that he doesn't understand it himself but that his explanation makes the most sense for him).
I think that it can have complete success when the anxiety disorder is caused by an emotional hang-up earlier in life, and that it may go a long way towards 'curing' chronic things like autism because a great deal of the problem is due to our acquired emotional response to it, not to the disorder itself.
