Anxiety Disorder - Lazy and Tired

Does anxiety disorder cause laziness and tiredness?

Anxiety Question:

Does anxiety disorder cause laziness and tiredness and how do you stop it?

Anxiety Answer:

The short answer would be no on the first and yes on the second part. Let me elaborate. It is not exactly that anxiety disorder makes you lazy, but it can paralyze you. Constant fear or even severe worrying may inhibit your motivation to take steps in any direction, because you may fear the outcome of your decisions will make matters worse. One way to avoid that is by not facing the decisions and instead seek idle distraction.

Exhaustion, on the other hand, is a very common symptom of fear. If we are talking occasional panic attacks, it may even be a very significant side effect of anxiety disorder. It's really easy to understand: you are under a lot of tension and your body requires lots of energy to maintain such a high activity. Muscles get cramped because you flex them without being aware of it. You may experience sleep deprivation or lack certain sleep phases, resulting in more tiredness.

I would suggest that you (or who ever else it is you know who experiences anxiety disorder) should certainly consider seeking professional help. Medication won't be necessary, but can be helpful in certain cases.

"Your mind is unique. It perceives the world in a way that nothing else on earth can. Its full power is beyond the understanding of modern science. You posses the power. Sitting between your ears is a natural miracle. Your brain is more powerful than any computer in existence, including super-computers."
