Definition of Anxiety Disorder
What is anxiety disorder?
Anxiety Question:
What is the definition of anxiety disorder?
Anxiety Answer:
Anxiety disorder is a state in which your body is wound up with the sympathetic nervous system fight/flight/fright response.
This may be as a result of a stressor (like if you see a spider), or in some cases it may be a periodic condition without a stressor (like a panic attack) or can be a general pervasive condition that someone stays in all the time (generalized anxiety disorder).
Anxiety in its origin is functional.
If you are about to take a test or if the caveman sees the saber-toothed tiger, the body kicks in this response. Your heart beats fast and blood is diverted away from the skin and from the stomach. It goes primarily to the brain and muscles so you are able to run or fight.
Consequently patients with anxiety disorder feel odd sensations in their skin, their heart pounding away and chest pains, short of breath, butterflies in their stomach, etc.
