Anxiety & Depression

I feel like I can’t think and that my life is nothing but worries and stress.

Anxiety Question:

I sometimes get so stressed out I feel like I’m going to explode.
I feel like I can’t think and that my life is nothing but worries and stress.

Does this sound like anxiety and depression and do you take the same kind of medications for these problems?

Anxiety Answer:

It sounds like depression, but you really need to consult a psychologist or a psychiatrist. Do not go to your family doctor! They are not licensed to diagnose any type of mental illness and are too eager to hand out medications.

In the beginning you'll probably have to take meds, which is good because it helps put the chemical imbalance in your brain into alignment. They also help to stabilize you so that you can learn better coping skills and learn to deal with your feelings.

Please note that you may only have to take meds for a short period of time and not your whole life.

Several years ago I was diagnosed by a psychologist with a form of depression. I took meds for approximately 6 to 8 months and then no longer had to take them. I have been symptom-free for about 6 years and no longer go to therapy or take meds.
