Anti Anxiety Medication -
Is it Always Necessary?
I took my anti anxiety medications for awhile and then went off...
Anxiety Question:
A year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder.
I took my anti anxiety medications for awhile and then went off them because I thought I didn't need them. Now I am having serious anxiety issues and I think I’ve been having panic attacks.
My mom doesn't think I need my anti anxiety medications. She thinks I’m "all better" so she threw away my anxiety pills along with my pills for depression.
I don't see a psychiatrist anymore, so he can't give me anymore. What should I do?
Anxiety Answer:
I too suffer from anxiety disorder.
I too went off my anti anxiety medications when things got better - meaning a calm mind. I went off and the anxiety returned worse.
Problem - if it's a chemical imbalance, all the therapy in the world won't do squat. It's like talking for an hour to regulate my insulin if I had diabetes.
If it's issues, talk them out and deal with them, anxiety medications will help you through it, then the doctor will wean you off.
If it's chemical, you're on anti anxiety medications for life.
