How to Alleviate Anxiety Attacks?
Is there anything I can do if I feel an anxiety attack coming on?
Anxiety Question:
I have only had four anxiety attacks in my entire life but they are horrible. My body goes into shock and I usually throw up. I can't walk or stand and I’m dizzy. After I throw up I am okay again. Usually there is 3-5 minutes from "point of impact" to effects.
Is there anything I can do if I feel one coming on?
I tried to sit still, go outside, think of pleasing things; nothing works. I am thoroughly convinced it's entirely mental because three out of four of my attacks are dental related. I'm not interested in any pills.
What can I do to alleviate this before it's critical? What helps you?
Anxiety Answer:
I get anxiety attacks all the time and I refuse to take medication for it, so I started going to a counselor for it.
Here's what she told me, and it works really well. Every night before you go to bed (or once a day) relax your whole body. Start at your neck/shoulders and work your way down to your toes. First, tense up your muscles for 5 seconds, and then relax for 5 seconds, breathing deeply through the whole thing. Do each body part separately.
If you do this every day for 30 days you will automatically start doing it. So then every time you get an anxiety attack, instead of freaking out and tensing up, your body will relax and you'll stay calmer.
