Cigarettes and Alcohol Cause Anxiety

Can cigarettes and alcohol consumption cause anxiety?

Anxiety Question:

Can cigarettes and alcohol consumption cause anxiety? Do they lower your serotonin levels?

I only drink on the weekends but I usually drink too much about one weekend night per week. I have noticed anxiety symptoms to be getting worse.

I thought I had it under control after extensive counseling but now it's getting worse. I do not want to ever relive that experience. Could my bad habits be the problem? What should I do?

Anxiety Answer:

Alcohol is a depressant.

And if you don’t get a lot of sleep after the one weekend night of going out it will lower your serotonin levels as well, which can cause anxiety.

So maybe keep the alcohol drinking to once a month.

Dealing with Anxiety Advice

My beliefs are changing way down deep!

Just three weeks ago I received your "Dissolving Panic and Anxiety" CD after suffering from an anxiety disorder and crippling panic attacks for nearly four years.

I really had reached the point where I felt "managing" was as good as it would get, but your program changed that! After listening twice a day for the last three weeks I FEEL HAPPIER AND MORE RELAXED than I ever believed I would feel again!

In particular, I have really benefited from falling asleep with the program. Bedtime has been when I have tended to be the most vulnerable to an anxiety episode.

My beliefs are changing way down deep where it counts.

I recommend this program to anybody with anxiety!
